There is no more beneficial way to replace lost teeth than with dental implants. The only question is whether you meet the qualifications for getting them. One such requirement is that your jaw structure should be thick and strong so it can support the implant sufficiently. It is not uncommon, though, for patients to find that they aren't eligible. That's the bad news. There is good news, though. Here at Maryland Center for Periodontics and Dental Implants, our
Baltimore bone grafting procedure strengthens your jaw with the result being your ability to get implants after all.
Here's how it works: first, you will come in for a consultation, examination, and testing. The results of the test will reveal whether your jaw meets the necessary standards for getting an implant. The reason this is even necessary is that the post of your implant, which acts as an artificial root, is supposed to become a part of your jaw structure. This occurs when your bone tissue grows around and fuses with it, generally taking a few months in total. Our Baltimore bone grafting proceeds by using bone harvested either from another part of your body, or obtained from a tissue donor bank. This bone is then added to your jaw, where it spurs the growth of new and stronger bone. And within a few months, you will be able to move forward with getting your dental implant, secure in the knowledge that our
Baltimore bone grafting was successful. The effort is most certainly worth it, because not only does an implant look, feel, and act like a real tooth, but with proper care it will last for many years, up to and including for life. That is certainly an exciting prospect.
