Baltimore Dental Care
Here at the Maryland Center for Periodontics and Dental Implants, our Baltimore dentist cannot stress enough how important your daily oral hygiene habits are when it comes to preventing serious dental conditions, as well as simply maintaining a healthy, clean smile over time. While it may seem like common knowledge, many people are not putting in their best effort to brush and floss their teeth effectively each day, and neglecting these crucial routines can greatly increase your risk of developing common dental issues like tooth decay, periodontal disease, and more. When purchasing a toothbrush, our
Baltimore dentist recommends that you choose a brush with softer bristles, to avoid irritating your gums. When you brush your teeth, point the brush down toward your gum line, and carefully brush each of your teeth thoroughly but gently in a circular motion.

In addition to brushing your teeth, it is also important to brush your tongue and the insides of your cheeks, as these are areas where harmful bacteria tend to linger. Your daily oral hygiene routine should also include flossing. If you are not fond of flossing, or find it difficult, try using dental flossers, available at any drug store or anywhere where toothbrushes are sold.
Dental flossers are essentially floss attached to a small plastic holder, which allow you to have better control and to more effectively floss your teeth. Some even include gum stimulators to help encourage better gum health. You may also consider using an anti-bacterial mouthwash to ensure the most thorough clean. When buying mouthwash, make sure that the one you choose has been approved by the American Dental Association to make sure that it will effectively remove harmful bacteria.
